TMJ -- Jaw Pain, Migraine Headaches
Dr. Knowlton works with patients who have problems with the temporomandibular joint, causing pain or headaches. The temporomandibular joint connects the lower jaw, or mandible, to the temporal bone at the side of the head. Besides pain, other symptoms include jaw clicking sounds, limited movement, earaches and dizziness.

TMD Appliances- We use a multi-therapeutic treatment with physical therapy and massage therapy. We are well-versed in multiple forms of splint therapy to treat.

Better Sleep Aids

• Snoreguards - Snoring is caused when air intake is obstructed or restricted, and is often related to sleep apnea. We construct a tailor-made device that fits over your teeth while you sleep, changing the shape of your air passage and the vibration pattern of your soft palate. It could help you and your spouse get a good night's rest.
• Nightguards -We offer both hard and soft nightguard appliances to eliminate excessive wear caused by clenching and grinding during sleeping.

We realize some patients are apprehensive about receiving dental care. So we have worked hard to garner a reputation for making patients as comfortable and relaxed as possible. We have many relaxation techniques available to help ease your jitters. Medical techniques include oral sedation, a pill that will completely relax you, and nitrous oxide for patients needing this sedation level.

Periodontal Therapy
Our approach is conservative. We use the non-surgical method whenever possible, with the latest antibiotic therapy techniques to fight the bacteria causing advanced forms of periodontal disease.

• Charting and Diagnostics
• Scaling and Root Planing - Periodontal scaling and root planing is a conservative cleaning procedure removing contamination and infection beneath the gum. Scaling removes deposits of bacterial plaque, calculus and pus that have accumulated in the infected pocket due to periodontitis. Root planing smoothes and cleans the root of the tooth. Dr. Knowlton uses this non-surgical treatment in cases of early to moderate stages of periodontitis. It may reduce the extent for surgical treatment in the more advanced stages of gum disease.
• Non-surgical treatment - With the use of antibiotics, we provide the best therapeutic processes to treat your periodontal disease. We use Arestin, an antibiotic that is administered directly into the infected pockets between your teeth. Usually, we will administer Arestin after scaling and root planing, a common procedure used to treat periodontal disease. We have found Arestin is an excellent treatment for chronic periodontitis, an infection of the gums that can lead to tooth loss. Arestin significantly reduces the depth of infected pockets and helps prevent disease progression.
