Dr. Knowlton is an “Olympic Dentist”!

As the president of the Academy for Sports Dentistry, Dr. Richard Knowlton has a passion for sports dentistry. The nature of sports presents unique issues and dental concerns for many athletes and requires special attention and skill to ensure the proper treatments and techniques are used. The Academy for Sports Dentistry was established in 1983 and had the goal of being “a forum for dentists, physicians, trainers, coaches, dental technicians, and educators interested in exchanging ideas related to Sports Dentistry and the dental needs of athletes at risk to sports’ injuries.”

Dr. Knowlton has been integral in advancing the study of sports dentistry throughout the years, and all of his experience, skill, and expertise has awarded him and the ASD a very special and exciting opportunity with the U.S. Olympic Committee.

On August 14^th, the U.S. Olympic Committee formed a national medical network that provides much needed care and attention to our country’s Olympic athletes. The ASD has been brought on to fulfill the Committee’s needs for outstanding sports dentistry for its athletes. In the ASD’s invitation to the medical network,

“The purpose of this medical network is to provide convenient and quality services for elite athletes,” the USOC said. “The variety and value of services that this collaborative project will provide is a true game changer for Team USA.”

It is an honor and a testament to Dr. Knowlton’s dental expertise to take on this opportunity, and we are incredibly excited for Dr. Knowlton and the Academy for Sports Dentistry!
